The University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley is planning to block access to some websites and apps following an order by Governor Greg Abbott.
The governor has ordered all state agencies to block Chinese-affiliated artificial intelligence and social media apps. UTRGV announced Monday that it will block six apps and websites identified by the governor, including Rednote, DeepSeek and Tiger Brokers.
The university said the move was meant to protect users from potential data harvesting and spying sponsored by the Chinese government.
