Hidalgo County is a step closer to opening its new courthouse in Edinburg. The Texas Commission on Jail Standards informed the county on Thursday that the building passed its inspection and could be utilized immediately.
County officials say records and personnel will now be moved from the old county courthouse and should be done in 60 to 90 days. The county is also working on plans to demolish the old courthouse building.
