(Deer Park, TX) — Two people are dead and several are recovering from injuries they suffered from a chemical leak at a PEMEX plant in Deer Park. Officials say the leak involved hydrogen sulfide and led to the closure of State Highway 225. Harris County officials say the leak has been contained and poses no threat to the external community. Deer Park Mayor Jerry Mouton says there was not a chemical leak in the area, though officials in Pasadena say the chemical that was released was hydrogen sulfide. The facility processes crude oil from other countries to make fuel oil and gasoline.
