Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath is calling on lawmakers to ban cell phones in schools. Speaking before the Senate Committee on Education, Morath stated that smart phones are negatively impacting students progress. He says the best way to make the ban possible is through legislative actions.
Some lawmakers on the panel were very receptive to the idea, pointing to what they call “successful” bans that have been implemented by District Superintendents throughout the state. Four states already have bans on cellphones in place.
