Texas Democrats are still trying to figure out why abortion wasn’t the winning issue they thought it would be with the state’s voters in last week’s election.
Texas enacted a stiff abortion ban after Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022, but polls show more than 70 percent of Texans want state law to make room for more exceptions.
Still, President Donald Trump won Texas by 14 points, and Senator Ted Cruz beat Colin Allred by nine points. Texas voters, both men and women, were more concerned about inflation and the border than abortion.
