A San Antonio lawmaker plans to continue his push to crack down on dogs that have a history of posing a danger to others. State Senator Jose Menendez says he plans to refile his bill known as the Ramon Najera Act, named after a man who was mauled by two pit bulls.

The bill would put restrictions on dogs that have attacked other humans and put forth consequences for owners that don’t follow the law. Menendez’s last attempt at the bill made it through the state House and Senate before Governor Abbott vetoed it. Menendez says he does not know why the governor vetoed his bill.

The plan to refile the bill follows the death of a one-year-old boy who was fatally mauled by a group of dogs earlier this week. Last week, there were reports of at least two other dog attacks on humans, with one victim identified as a young child.
