A proposed state Senate bill would boost funding for special education programs in Texas.
The Senate Committee on Education discussed Senate Bill 568 in a meeting on Tuesday. Senator Paul Bettencourt, a Houston Republican, filed the bill, which he says would overhaul the formulas Texas uses to budget for its 775 thousand students with learning disabilities.
GOP Senator Brent Hagenbuch of Denton struggled with dyslexia as a child, and he told the committee he thinks the proposed bill is a “great” idea.
