Texas Lottery officials are investigating an Austin store that sold the winning ticket for last month’s 83.5-million-dollar Lotto Texas jackpot.

The retailer is being investigated for violations of the Lottery Commission’s rules. Several other stores that worked with so-called courier companies have lost their licenses to sell lottery tickets.

Couriers are third-party operators that offer smart phone apps to players who want to buy tickets online as a way to dodge the state law against buying lottery tickets over the phone.

The Senate has passed a bill to outlaw couriers, and is considering a bill to ban bulk lottery ticket purchases.
