Some Republican state lawmakers are filing bills to get rid of countywide voting on Election Day.

The House and the Senate are each considering a bill to eliminate the practice, which is allowed in 99 counties that include more than 80 percent of the state’s voters. Sponsors of the bills claim countywide voting results in inaccurate vote totals.

Opponents say requiring people to vote only in the precinct where they live costs millions of taxpayer dollars by requiring more polling places to be open and staffed.
