A bill that would require public school classrooms in Texas to display the Ten Commandments is on its way to the full Senate for consideration.

A Texas Senate committee advanced the bill on Tuesday, along with one that would allow school districts to provide students with prayer time during the school day.

Texas is among 16 states whose legislatures are pursuing bills to require the Ten Commandments in classrooms because of their significance to American law and history. A similar bill in Louisiana is facing a court challenge.
