The Border Patrol is confirming that agents in South Texas were shot at by someone on the Mexican side of the border.
Spokeswoman Christina Smallwood says nobody was hit by the gunfire. The agents were on a strip of land in the Rio Grande, called Fronton Island. It’s been a hot-spot for cartel activity.
Smugglers have historically used it as a staging point for large groups. Both Texas and Mexico have made conflicting claims regarding the island’s ownership.
