Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is getting involved in the race for Speaker of the Texas House.
Representative David Cook is the choice of most of the GOP, but neither Cook nor Representative Dustin Burrows has the 76 votes needed to win the majority in the 150-member chamber. So it looks like they’ll need Democratic votes to win the seat.
Paxton opposes the long-standing House tradition of giving legislative committee chairmanships to the minority party. He says he’ll not only support but recruit primary challengers for House Republicans who support Burrows instead of Cook.
