Officer Arrested Over Off-Duty Shooting Claims Self Defense

The Fort Worth police officer arrested Friday in connection to an off-duty shooting is claiming self-defense. On Saturday the Fort Worth Star Telegram obtained an affidavit signed by Officer William Martin describing his version of events leading up to the September third shooting that left another driver injured.

Martin says the driver hit his car while trying to change lanes and wouldn’t pull over to exchange information. Martin chased the other driver for miles before forcing him to the side of the road. He claims he intended to identify himself as police before the other vehicle rammed his car, prompting Martin to shoot the other driver, fearing the car would hit him. Martin has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
