Texas’s Republican leadership wants to end a decades-long tradition of allowing members of the minority party to chair at least some legislative committees. The proposed rules for the upcoming session were released Thursday.
While democrats could not lead committees, they would be assigned as vice-chairs. There has been an ongoing debate within the state’s Republican Party over how much influence Democratic members should be allowed to wield.
