A man is facing human smuggling charges after Border Patrol agents found people hiding inside the wheel wells of a pickup truck.
Investigators say Noel Mercado of Houston nearly failed to stop at the Falfurrias Border Patrol checkpoint on Sunday night.
A K-9 unit alerted agents to possible problems with the bed of the truck, and an x-ray revealed people hiding in the wheel wells. Four people were removed from the truck and arrested for being illegally present in the United States. Mercado appeared in federal court in Corpus Christi yesterday and was given a 30-thousand-dollar bond.
