The winners of two Rio Grande City commission races this past May will remain on the commission. The losers had tried to boot them off but a judge Wednesday found they’d been elected fair and square.
The ousted commissioners Rey Ramirez and Alberto Escobedo had filed a lawsuit contesting the results of the May 4th municipal election, citing irregularities that should cause 230 votes to be disqualified. After a 1-day trial, the judge said the pair didn’t provide enough evidence of any wrongdoing and upheld the results.
Those results showed Ediel Barrera beating Ramirez in the Place 2 race by 78 votes, and Eudolio Barrera defeating Escobedo for the Place 4 seat by 121 votes.
