A highway sign dedicated to Valley DPS Trooper Moises Sanchez has been unveiled. Local officials, fellow troopers, and Sanchez’s family members gathered Friday for the dedication ceremony. Drivers on I-69C through Edinburg will see the sign just before Bert Ogden Arena.

Sanchez was shot the night of April 6th 2019 by an intoxicated gunman who Sanchez was chasing after the suspect had crashed his truck. The 49-year-old Sanchez died 4-1/2 months later after several surgeries to try to repair a gunshot wound to his head.

The gunman, 29-year-old Victor Alejandro Godinez, was sentenced to death in late January after a nearly month-long trial.
