A Harlingen middle school student is facing criminal charges after being found with a gun on campus.
The 14-year-old boy had the firearm in his backpack when he arrived at Vernon Middle School Monday morning.
He reportedly showed the gun to another student and a report was made to the principal. School security officers quickly detained the student and he was then arrested by Harlingen city police. Officers say they found a pistol, a magazine, and bullets in the backpack.
The student is facing a charge of unlawfully carrying a firearm. No one was hurt.
