Texas Republicans want to protect state workers from being fired for refusing to use someone’s preferred pronouns.

A bill by State Senator Bryan Hughes mentions a wide swath of public workers, from people serving on boards to college teachers and even rank-and-file employees. It was opposed by transgender activists at a hearing this week, who say this is akin to state sanctioned bullying. Hughes says this does not affect the state’s laws prohibiting harassment.
