Progreso’s former mayor is pleading guilty to federal drug trafficking charges. Jerry Alanis entered a guilty plea Tuesday in federal court in Brownsville.

Alanis said he invested money into cocaine shipments between 2020 and 2022, though prosecutors did not give any details about how much money Alanis spent.

Alanis waived his right to appeal and faces ten years to life in federal prison when he’s sentenced in June.
