Monday will be the last chance for McAllen residents to say what they think about the city’s proposed new fiscal year budget. The final public hearing is set for Monday afternoon on the proposed $652 million budget.

The 2024-25 budget contains a slight decrease in the city’s property tax rate along with $253 million in spending for capital improvements. A city news release states that while property taxes are lower for the third straight year, the city will sustain the current municipal workforce, as well as fund necessary infrastructure, economic development, and quality of life projects.

Among the projects highlighted are the expansion of cargo facilities at the Anzalduas International Bridge and the Center for Urban Ecology at Quinta Mazatlan.
