Federal Judge Strikes Down Texas Mail-In Ballot Requirement

0

A federal judge in San Antonio says ID requirements for mail ballot applications in Texas are unconstitutional.

The judge ruled on Thursday that the provisions of a voter security law passed in 2021 discriminate against disabled voters.

Mail-in voters are mostly either disabled or over the age of 65. Many voters say their ballots were rejected because they didn’t provide an ID number, or the number they provided didn’t match the one the state had on file.

The judge ordered the ID requirement to be removed from mail-in ballot applications, though there isn’t time to get that done before upcoming elections on May 3rd.
