The Trump administration has fired five immigration judges in Texas, raising concerns about the effect it will have on a backlog of cases.

Democratic Congressman Henry Cuellar would only say the decision was made for reasons involving their “performance.” One of the fired judges served in the border town of Laredo, which is his district.

The others worked in Houston and El Paso. Court records show they all heard between 500 and 700 immigration cases each year.
