A Donna-area man is to be arraigned Monday on a charge of capital murder in the beating death of his 3-year-old daughter.
After two days on the run, U.S. Marshals caught up with 23-year-old Jose Manuel Uresti Saturday at the Anzalduas International Bridge. Authorities haven’t said how they tracked Uresti down and details of his arrest haven’t been revealed.
The manhunt began last Thursday after Hidalgo County sheriff’s deputies were called about an unresponsive child at a home in a rural neighborhood north of Donna. The badly beaten girl was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy ruled her death a homicide stating she died of blunt force trauma.
Deputies arrested the girl’s mother, 25-year-old Wendy Rivera, at the home after she admitted to knowing about the recent and previous injuries her daughter suffered. Rivera remains jailed on a charge of failing to report a felony.
