A Donna-area man has been ordered jailed without bond after being arraigned on a charge of capital murder in the beating death of his 3-year-old daughter. 23-year-old Jose Manuel Uresti was brought before a judge Monday – two days after his arrest that came after a two-day manhunt.
Uresti fled a rural neighborhood home north of Donna last Thursday before Hidalgo County sheriff’s deputies arrived to find his young daughter unresponsive. The badly bruised girl was rushed to the hospital where she died. Uresti had fled across the border to Rio Bravo where family members convinced him to turn himself in, and he was arrested at the Anzalduas International Bridge Saturday.
Uresti and the girl’s mother are both behind bars. 25-year-old Wendy Rivera was arrested shortly after her daughter died Thursday after she admitted to knowing the girl was being physically abused. Rivera is jailed on a charge of failing to report a felony.
