A chemical leak is being blamed for a shelter-in-place order issued in Weslaco on Friday. First responders and hazmat crews were called to the water treatment plant on North Texas Boulevard after chlorine dioxide leaked from a chemical line.

Roads in the area were closed and nearby residents were told to stay inside until the leak was contained. No injuries were reported and the city says there was no impact on drinking water quality.
