Story by TIM SULLIVAN

Authorities have in custody the man they say burglarized two churches in Cameron Park last month. 37-year-old Daniel Chavez is accused of stealing lawn mowers, weed eaters, and landscaping tools from the churches.

The first of the burglaries happened August 24th at San Felipe de Jesus church. There was a second break-in two days later. Cameron County sheriff’s investigators then coordinated with Brownsville police detectives who were looking into burglaries at Iglesia de Rios de Agua Viva. The investigations led to Chavez’s arrest and the recovery of most of the stolen goods.
