Biden Signs Starr-Carmago Bridge Act

A South Texas international bridge may eventually expand to more than a dozen lanes. President Biden recently signed the Starr-Carmago Bridge Expansion Act, clearing the way for work to expand the Rio Grande City bridge.

Democratic Congressman Henry Cuellar of Laredo worked with Republican Senator John Cornyn to get the bill approved by Congress and sent to the President’s desk. The bridge is privately owned and will pay for the expansion through tolls.

The Starr-Carmago Bridge is one of only two bridges along the U.S.-Mexico border that allows trucks with double trailers, oversized trucks and overweight trucks.
