Appeals Court Issues Stay For Texas Man Set To Be Executed On Thursday

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals is putting a scheduled execution on hold. The state’s highest court issued a stay of execution on Tuesday for David Leonard Wood, whose execution by lethal injection was set for Thursday.

The 67-year-old inmate has been on Death Row for nearly 40 years for the murders of six girls and women in El Paso in 1987. No DNA evidence has ever linked him to the crimes, and Wood has always maintained his innocence. The court issued the stay “until further order of this court” without explanation.
