Governor Greg Abbott is calling on a two-year extension of the tuition freeze already in place for Texas colleges and universities. Abbott said Wednesday that officials of the different university systems agree with his position.

University leaders agreed to the tuition freeze for undergrads this school year, if the state provides a 700-million-dollar boost lawmakers allocated in last year’s legislative session.

Tuition and fees in Texas average just over ten thousand dollars for in-state students. Add in housing, books, and other costs, and it’s north of 28-thousand dollars.
