Governor Greg Abbott says his program to bus thousands of illegal immigrants from Texas to “sanctuary cities” may have helped set the tone for last year’s presidential election.
Abbott spoke on Thursday to the Federalist Society chapter at the University of Texas Law School. He said the busing initiative and the state’s border security measures were intended to bring relief to small border towns. But he acknowledged that they also gave former President Donald Trump an issue he could contrast with President Joe Biden’s open-border policies.
