Several dozen Texas-based employees of the Department of Education are out of a job. They were laid off on Tuesday as part of the Trump administration’s ongoing efforts to reduce the size of the federal workforce.
The department terminated at least 25 attorneys in Texas and shut down its Dallas office, laying off another 27 employees. A few other employees were let go in DFW, Austin, and the Houston area.
President Jimmy Carter founded the D-o-E in 1980. President Donald Trump and Education Secretary Linda McMahon want to dismantle it and return its authority to the states.
