Texas Railroad Commission Chair Christi Craddick and former GOP state Senator Don Huffines are in the running for state comptroller.
Craddick and Huffines both announced their candidacies on Friday, shortly after current comptroller Glenn Hegar was named the new chancellor of the Texas A&M University System.
Governor Greg Abbott will appoint a replacement to complete Hegar’s term, which ends in January 2027. The election to fill the seat is in 2026. The comptroller is the state’s CFO, revenue estimator, and treasurer.
