Federal Government Selling Three Unneeded Houston Buildings

The federal government is selling or ending its leases at three Houston buildings. Alliance Tower on South Gessner houses the IRS and the State Department.

The George Thomas Mickey Leland Federal Building on Smith Street is the home of the U.S. Passport office. The century-old Houston Custom House on San Jacinto Street is now on the National Register of Historic Places.

The U.S. General Services Administration says it’s selling vacant or underutilized buildings in order to save taxpayers money. That includes two dozen buildings in Texas.
