Governor Abbott says parents deserve the chance to choose what schools are best for their children, even if that means sending them to private school.
The governor spoke about school choice Thursday during an appearance at Harvest Christian Academy in Edinburg. Abbott said a bill in the Texas Legislature that would let parents pay for private schools with taxpayer money will not affect funding for public schools.
The bill passed the Senate on Wednesday and is now under consideration in the House.
