Two Texas Democrats are among the members of Congress who voted to approve a bill to detain illegal immigrants accused of committing crimes.
The U.S. House passed the Laken Riley Act on Wednesday by a 263-156 vote. U.S. Representatives Henry Cuellar of Laredo and Vicente Gonzalez of McAllen were among the 46 Democrats who joined every Republican in support of the bill.
The U.S. Senate passed the bill on Monday, and it now heads to President Donald Trump’s desk for his signature. The bill is named for a Georgia nursing student who was murdered by an illegal immigrant.
