The Narcotics Evidence Room at the Houston Police downtown headquarters has a rat infestation problem. A spokesman for the Harris County District Attorney’s Office says they were notified about the situation last week. He says the rats got into a package of mushrooms that pertain to an active case.
To be on the safe side, the D-A’s office notified defense attorneys in more than 36-hundred open drug cases. HPD and other agencies have the permission of the DA’s office to destroy drug evidence from cleared cases more than ten years old.
