Two moderate Democrats from Texas are the only members of their party to vote for a ban on federal funds for schools that allow biological males in girls’ sports. Representatives Vicente Gonzalez of McAllen and Henry Cuellar of Laredo voted Tuesday in favor of the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act.
The bill defines a person’s sex as based on genetics and reproductive biology at birth. The bill also commissions a study of the adverse effects on girls of allowing males to compete in girl’s athletics.
