We’re learning more about the intentions of the man who carried out the deadly New Year’s Day attack in New Orleans. Investigators say Houston resident Shamsud-Din Jabbar built two bombs using what is believed to be RDX.

The bombs could have killed or wounded hundreds of people, but they failed to detonate. Jabbar killed 14 people and injured more than 30 when he drove a rented pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street around 3:15 a.m. on January 1st. Police then killed him in a shootout that also wounded two officers.
