A man is facing human smuggling charges after three dozen people were found hiding inside a trailer at the Sarita Border Patrol checkpoint.
Agents were alerted to the trailer early Friday morning by a K-9 unit and referred the vehicle for a secondary inspection. They opened the sealed trailer and found 36 people hiding inside. All of them admitted to being in the U.S. illegally.
The suspect said he picked up the truck in Donna and was supposed to drive it to Houston. He also said he was supposed to collect a thousand dollars for each person inside the trailer.
