By San Antonio City Councilman Marc Whyte is opposing efforts by several council members to use city funds to pay the travel costs for abortion seekers. City Council approved the contracts for the Reproductive Justice Fund last Thursday.
The fund excludes out-of-state travel costs for women seeking legal abortions, instead funding free contraception, STI tests, and prenatal care. Five council members are asking Mayor Ron Nirenberg for 100-thousand dollars to cover the travel costs. Whyte calls the proposal “inappropriate.”
