A Democratic US Congressman from south Texas says his party needs to get its act together after a humiliating election defeat.
Vicente Gonzalez of McAllen is a rare conservative Democrat, who sometimes votes with Republicans on issues such as energy and the border.
Gonzalez says his party’s emphasis on abortion and trans rights were off-putting to his mostly Catholic constituents, so he won re-election by less than three percentage points. He says the Democrats’ messaging was wrong, their polls were inaccurate, their leadership is incompetent, and somebody needs to be fired.
