A Cameron County woman is thanking those who have supported her quest to overturn her 2008 murder conviction. Melissa Lucio told ABC News this week that there are “truly no amount of words” that can express the thanks she feels right now.
The comments come after a Cameron County judge announced last week that Lucio’s conviction for the death of her daughter should be overturned. Lucio was sentenced to death after the conviction and came close to being executed in 2022 before a stay was issued. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals is currently reviewing the judge’s decision in the case.
