The Department of Public Safety is continuing to look into the circumstances of a deadly crash in which a Border Patrol transport van was struck by a wrong-way driver.

The head-on crash south of Donna Friday night killed two people – one in each vehicle. The DPS says a Ford F-150 was traveling on the wrong side of Military Highway when it slammed into the Border Patrol van east of FM 493. The pickup truck rolled and burst into flames, killing the driver who was burned beyond recognition.

The crash also killed a passenger in the Border Patrol van, 21-year-old Jose Martin Rodriguez-Lua of Brownsville. The agent driving the van suffered serious injuries but has since been released from the hospital.

The name of the driver has not been released. Officials say Rodriguez-Lua worked as a Border Patrol processing coordinator.
