An Edinburg man has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from the suspected beating death of his 6-month-old daughter.

27-year-old Jesus Bustamante was arraigned Friday on charges of capital murder, aggravated assault of a family member, and of failing to provide medical care. Bustamante is accused of beating his baby daughter in August of last year. He was arrested about a month later on charges of injury to a child.

The girl died four months later, resulting in the capital murder charge. The girl’s mother, Nitzali Rodriguez, was also arrested on the same charges as Bustamante but has not yet been indicted.
