The incumbent chair of the Texas Railroad Commission is running for reelection next month.
Despite its name, the commission has nothing to do with railroads, but regulates the state’s oil and gas industry. That industry is booming in Texas, which produced a record-breaking 42-percent of the nation’s oil last year.
Railroad Commission Chair Christi Craddick says Texas should remain in the lead in the nation’s energy policy. Her Democratic challenger Katherine Culbert claims the commission’s regulation is too lax.
