Former State Judge Reprimanded By State Commission

0

A former Cameron County judge has been reprimanded by a state commission for comments made during a case in 2020. The Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct released its decision in the case of former 404th District Judge Elia Lopez last week.

The commission said Lopez purposely made disparaging remarks about a lawyer after being asked to recuse herself from a case. The written comments called the attorney “mentally ill” and accused him of corruption and violations of attorney-client privilege. The commission said Lopez deserved a public reprimand for the lack of respect shown through her conduct.
