Texas Judge Blocks Medicaid Proposal Set To Affect 1.8M People

A Texas judge is halting a new Medicaid contract proposal that would have forced almost two-million Texans to change their health coverage.

On Friday a Travis County judge blocked the 116-billion-dollar proposal from being finalized. The contract would’ve excluded multiple children’s hospital plans and forced almost half of the Texans who receive coverage from the Children’s Health Insurance Plan or Medicaid to switch plans.

The judge found the proposal violates state law and exceeds the authority of Texas Health and Human Services. A trial on a permanent injunction is set to begin in November, but the ruling can be appealed or the proposal withdrawn before then.
