Monday will be the start of the third week of the murder trial of the man accused of killing his uncle – Harlingen criminal defense attorney Ernesto Gonzalez – more than seven years ago.
Prosecutors are trying to show that 47-year-old Salomon Campos Jr. kidnapped, restrained, and shot Gonzalez amid a number of family disputes. Last week, prosecutors called another law enforcement investigator to the stand, as well as several more family members – one who testified about a fight that broke out among relatives at the funeral of an elderly family member.
On Friday, defense attorneys asked for a mistrial claiming a witness had testified about evidence she’d been instructed not to mention. The motion was denied. Prosecution testimony will resume Monday morning.
