Guilty of murder – the verdict against the second of three suspects charged in the killing of a Weslaco doctor almost five years ago.
The verdict was handed down Thursday against 24-year-old Luis Antonio Lopez Valenzuela after a 4-day trial according to the McAllen Monitor.
Weslaco police say Lopez was driving a Hyundai sedan that had blocked Dr. John Jesus Dominguez as he was driving away from his office the afternoon of November 7th 2019. A passenger in the sedan got out and began shooting at Dominguez. The doctor sped off but swerved into traffic, crashed, and died from what authorities determined was a gunshot wound.
The gunman, 21-year-old Joel Ismael Gonzalez, pleaded guilty to a charge of murder in May and is serving a 40-year prison sentence. The third suspect, 36-year-old Josue Benavides Torres, is awaiting trial.
